The Liver Transplant Department at DMC&H provides a comprehensive spectrum of services, including:

✅ Living Donor Liver Transplantation (LDLT)

Safely performed in carefully selected donors, primarily family members, using advanced surgical techniques and ensuring optimal donor recovery.

✅ Deceased Donor Liver Transplantation (DDLT)

In collaboration with state and national transplant registries (NOTTO/SOTTO), we facilitate organ allocation ethically and transparently.

✅ Pediatric Liver Transplantation

Specialized care for children with congenital and metabolic liver diseases. Our pediatric transplant team is trained in handling the smallest and most delicate patients.

✅ ABO-Incompatible Liver Transplants

In select cases, liver transplant is performed across blood groups using desensitization protocols.

✅ Management of Acute Liver Failure

Rapid response team for fulminant hepatic failure with early listing and emergency transplant services.

✅ Advanced Hepatobiliary Surgery

Including complex liver resections, biliary reconstructions, and treatment for liver tumors like HCC, cholangiocarcinoma, etc.

Important events in the department

Department inaugurated by Prof. Gabba on 26th October 2024.

First Cadaveric liver transplant performed in December 2024.

First time in the history of DMC&H, Liver and One kidney (2 organs) retrieved and successfully transplanted from a cadaveric donor in 2 patients, in January 2025.

First time in history of DMC&H, an organ (Liver) was brought from another hospital through green corridor (>100 kms) and transplanted in DMC&H in February 2025.
