Paediatric Surgery

Paediatric Surgery services were started at DMC&H in 1986 by Dr. R. J. Singh. It was established with the vision of providing specialized care to children with surgical diseases. Dr. Singh had his training (M.Ch., Paediatric Surgery) from PGIMER, Chandigarh, and provided 26 years of dedicated service from 1986 to 2012.

Dr. Sushil Budhiraja joined as Assistant Professor in 2001 after completing his M.Ch. (Paediatric Surgery) from PGIMER, Chandigarh. He continued the mission of delivering affordable surgical care to sick children. Dr. Alka Grewal joined in 2017 as Attending Consultant after completing her M.Ch. (Paediatric Surgery) from Mumbai University and gaining 3 years of work experience in the UK. Dr. Arihant Jain joined in 2022 after completing his M.Ch. (Paediatric Surgery) from PGIMER, Chandigarh. He has a special interest in oncosurgery in children.

We have a fully equipped Paediatric Surgery OT with state-of-the-art monitoring equipment, anaesthesia workstation, hydraulic paediatric OT table, LED OT light, electrosurgical unit, harmonic scalpel, state-of-the-art HD laparoscopy and uro-endoscopy equipment, and other paediatric surgical instruments. A postoperative High Dependency Unit (HDU) is also functional. We run four OPD days per week. Nearly 250 patients are operated on in a year, including neonatal surgeries, GI surgery (including emergencies), paediatric laparoscopy, paediatric urology, paediatric oncological cases, and paediatric thoracic cases.
