The Department of Surgical Gastroenterology at DMC&H, Ludhiana, was established over two decades ago and has since evolved into a high-volume, specialized center. It has become a prominent referral hub for complex surgical gastroenterology including GI oncology cases from across North India & overseas. It is known for its patient-centric approach and consistently excellent clinical outcomes.

Clinical Expertise and Services

The department is well-recognized for performing a wide spectrum of advanced gastrointestinal surgeries, ranging from benign to complex procedures including minimal invasive surgeries for advanced GI cancers provided by well trained GI surgeon, using modern techniques in a well equipped infrastructure and environment. Surgical areas of expertise include:

Esophageal Surgery

– Management of motility disorders, gastroesophageal reflux disease, hiatus hernia, and esophageal malignancies (both laparoscopic & open techniques), Colon Interposition. 

Stomach Surgery

– Surgical treatment for peptic ulcer disease and gastric malignancies.

 Intestinal and Anal Surgery

– Management of acute emergencies like perforation peritonitis and obstruction including inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD), colorectal cancers. Treatment of Haemorrhoid, Fissure , Fistula using modern technique.

Hepato-Biliary Surgery 

– Liver resections for hepatobiliary malignancies including gall bladder cancer. Laparoscopic Cholechestomy and bile duct intervention. Laparoscopic liver cyst management.

Pancreatic Surgery

– Surgical treatment for acute necrotising pancreatitis, chronic pancreatitis and pancreatic malignancies, including Whipple’s procedures, RAMPS.

Other Procedures

– Shunt surgeries for portal hypertension, complex hernia repairs, and more procedures related to digestive system.
