The Department of Surgical Oncology at DMC&H came into existence in 2005 when Dr. G.S. Brar joined as Assistant Professor. Since then, the department is providing state-of-the-art cancer care to the patients. All types of cancer surgeries are performed in the department by a highly skilled and professional team. The department is located in the DMC&H Cancer Care Centre (in collaboration with the American Oncology Institute). The department has well-trained nursing staff, physiotherapist, and dietitian.
The department also conducts a multidisciplinary tumour board every week where critical treatment decisions are made in consultation with medical and radiation oncologists.
The department is involved in the teaching programme of postgraduate students. The department has also started MCh Surgical Oncology Program with annual intake of 2 seats. The department also works on research publications.

Dr. Gurpreet Singh Brar has experience of more than 25 years in the field of Surgical Oncology. He did his MBBS from DMCH, Ludhiana in 1990, MS (Surgery) from DMCH, Ludhiana in 1993. He joined Kidwai Memorial Institute of Oncology, Bangalore in 1995 as Non-Academic SR and completed his M.Ch-Surgical Oncology from the same institute in 2000.
