The Department of Microbiology, DMC&H, under the inspiring leadership of Dr. Veenu Gupta (Professor & Head) celebrated World Hand Hygiene Day on 5th May 2025. In line with this year’s theme — “It Might Be Gloves. It's Always Hand Hygiene” — the department organized a range of engaging and educational activities aimed at promoting awareness about infection prevention and control.
Faculty, Residents and Infection Control Nurses came together to reinforce the importance of proper hand hygiene practices. MBBS Batch 2023 Students took part in hands-on training, practicing hand hygiene steps and checking their compliance under UV light. A creative puzzle activity saw Ishita, Jasleen, Jasman, Jaspreet, and Manpriya emerge as winners.
Dr. Veenu Gupta also led an insightful awareness session titled “Hand Hygiene – Why, When and How”, followed by a quiz for paramedical, MLT students, and nursing staff. Congratulations to the quiz winners: Ashima, Ankita, Prachi (Paramedical) and Mandeep Kaur, Kiran, Manpreet (Nursing staff)! The department’s technical staff also enthusiastically participated in interactive sessions and quizzes, showcasing a collective commitment to hand hygiene.
To spread awareness beyond the hospital walls, the team reached out to the community in DMC&H Urban Health Centre, Shimlapuri, highlighting how simple hand hygiene practices can help break the chain of infection.
